Mindjammer Pre-Gen: Seductive Conperson —
Even though I have already worked through character generation with the two players in my new Mindjammer campaign, I still don’t feel particularly comfortable with it. For the most part Mindjammer is just Fate Core, but there are enough twists to it that I still have an interest in getting some practice at it. I’ll write them all up here as pregens for others to use as they like. This particular pregen was inspired by The Face template from Shadowrun.
To start with I want the Character to be focused on social interaction, to be a Commonality Human, and to be from a culture world. I’ve decided to write up a human from Ajeux III, specifically the capital city of Fleur de Lys Down. The character is going to be a seductive figure who uses a range of generic abilities and skills to play ou targets for the big score.
- Culture: Commonality (Ajeux III)
- Genotype: Commonality Human
- Occupation: Thief
- Tech Index: T9
- Habituated Gravity: Standard (.84G)
- Actual Age: 24
- Apparent Age: Young Adult
I’m not yet sure how many extras I’ll need to workup the idea, so I’ll leave the Aspects loose for right now. Instead I’m going to focus on skills first, then stunts, then extras. Its tempting to give the character several genurgic mods, its not the most cost effective way to get what I need. Deceive Intrusion and Stealth are listed as the key skills for a thief so I’ll take them and in that order.
- Great (+4): Deceive
- Good (+3): Intrusion, Stealth
- Fair (+2): Ranged Combat, Will, Notice
- Average (+1): Athletics, Rapport, Resources, Unarmed Combat
Now for some stunts, again I’ll look at the recommendations and then work from there. I will likely not dive into my refresh considering this is a template. “Always a way out” will help the Character to get out of tight situations, “Cool customer” doesn’t really go along with the sexy seductor angle so I’ll ditch it, and “Slippery Target” is iffy. “One person, Many Faces” will work though, so I’m taking that. Since I can upgrade my Mindscape Implant to a Special Ops chip at no extra cost due to my professional permission I’m also going to take probe.
- Always a Way Out (Intrusion) – Gain a +2 on Creating an Advantage to escape.
- One Person, Many Faces (Deceive) – When you meet someone new, spend a fate point to declare you’ve met them before under a different name and identity. Create a situation aspect representing the identity, and use Deceive instead of Rapport when interacting with that person.
- Probe (Will) – Use technopsi to interface directly with an opponent’s Mindscape implant and perceive his surface thoughts. Gain a +2 bonus to create an advantage actions to discern the surface thoughts of a target. If you succeed with style, you gain two aspects; one for the target’s surface thoughts, and one for any thoughts the target is trying to suppress.
And now to the Extras, by default I need two: A mindscape implant, and a monitor band cloak. I have the, admittedly strange, idea of having the character change gender at will. Gender changing isn’t an extra, but I think its acceptable to use the Variform extra to model this. Even though the character doesn’t have the permission for the full variform extra, since this one is limited to sexual changes I’m going to say that its acceptable. All of this costs 2 aspects and 1 stunt, and I get 1 Aspect, 2 Stunts, and 6 Skill points as part of my Extras budget, so I have to work my gender changing into my High Concept, Trouble, or Cultural Aspect. I’m going to spend my last Extras budget Stunt on an Intrusion fold to bump up Intrusion to +2 when overcoming security measures. I’m going to spend 4 of my skill points on Nanobugs with a +4 notice, and the remaining 2 on a biomed array.
So lets bring this all together

Skills

Stunts
- Always a Way Out (Intrusion) – Gain a +2 on Creating an Advantage to escape.
- One Person, Many Faces (Deceive) – When you meet someone new, spend a fate point to declare you’ve met them before under a different name and identity. Create a situation aspect representing the identity, and use Deceive instead of Rapport when interacting with that person.
Halo
- Special Ops Chip – Mindscape Implant with no safeties, allows for illegal and damaging actions in the Mindscape and against Mindscape users, like Probe.
Extras
- Gender Variform – Can change gender within 1 exchange, including any combination of Male, Female, and Neuter. These changes are sexually complete but non-reproductive, if the Character wishes to assume a reproductive role standard Genurgy rules apply.
- Intrusion Fold – An aggregation of intrusion measures to thwart security, locks, sensors, automated defences. It doesn’t mask your signature, but insinuates itself into security systems and prevents them from operating. It provides a +2 Intrusion bonus to overcome security measures.
- Nanobugs – Tiny, insect-sized low-level sentiences, nanobugs infiltrate areas and conduct passive surveillance (using the Notice skill). When passive, they’re at least Superb (+5) to detect, or the surveilling agency’s Stealth roll, whichever is higher. If they detect something, they immediately return to base, simultaneously transmitting their findings, when they may be detected actively or passively against only a Fair (+2) opposition. Stopping a nanobug from escaping or transmitting is a hacking attempt against Fair (+2) passive opposition or the Intrusion roll of a security specialist.
- Biomed Array – Similar to a biomed array, this portable device gives you a Fair (+2) Technical skill for recovery obstacles. It contains a basic sentience, diagnostic routines, and essential treatments. You may use it on yourself at the usual penalty.
